🧪 idea for 1 way to address federal cuts to science funding: if the big dumb bill passes and >middle class people get tax breaks they don't need, can we organize a system to divert these to private foundations that already fund science? I'm serious. Anybody got ideas on if and how to do this?

This is true. All the (progressive) non-academics in my life are hearing still is whether USAID dismantling will hold up in court or not. My steady diet of @nytimes.com and related podcasts also says nothing about science.

They came for immigrants, trans people, people of color. In the first Trump term my university president actually resisted. Now they've unilaterally declared war on SCIENCE and higher education, and we're busy scrubbing DEI from our websites?! You can't appease someone who wants to destroy you.

i am glad to see @agu.org making a stand: declaring that it is NOT political for us to PROTECT SCIENCE. i had been waiting for organized resistance to bubble up from universities, but i get now that this is foolish. perhaps we organize action through our societies instead?
