195 years ago, on the 11th of April 1831, the Lewis chessmen were first exhibited at a meeting of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland shortly after being rediscovered. The pieces wee made between 1150 and 1200 and commonly believed to have been made in Norway. #otd #history 🗃️

National Museums Liverpool is 40! The World Museum has a special exhibition, which opened today, of 40 objects from the stores, chosen by curators and staff to represent the collections. Well worth a visit! My faves included Fido the Lion, casts of the Formby footprints and a dazzleship ferry model.

For #FindsFriday and #FlintFriday a beautiful Mousterian spearpoint 🤩. Made by Neanderthals between 52 and 40.000 BP near Esbeek. It is the largest Neanderthal site in the Netherlands, discovered by Piet van Gisbergen. In 20 yrs he found over 5500 artefacts. Acquired @rmoudheden.bsky.social in 2025

For #worldbearday 🐻 this beautiful pendant from the Neolithic site of Hekelingen, Zuid-Holland, the Netherlands (3600-2900 BCE) @rmoudheden.bsky.social. It was fashioned from a canine tooth of a brown bear (Ursus arctos) and demonstrates that bears were important and powerful symbolic animals.

The two stones of the Parth y Gwyddwch (domain of knowledge) stone row in Meirionnydd for #StandingStoneSunday. The row aligns with a clump of conifers on a distant hill. I swear you can see that patch of conifers wherever you are on the coast of Cardigan Bay.
