It’s now clear tonight’s brutal gun violence was targeting the Jewish community, families gathering to celebrate the 1st night of Chanukah. This is reprehensible and intolerable. My heart is with the Jewish community who are grieving loved ones, and feeling rocked and fearful.

What was meant to be a joyous celebration is now a national heartbreak. Jewish people have a right to safety. Antisemitism has no place in our community and this abhorrent attack is an attack on all of us.

My heart filled with dread when I saw the news this evening. I’m absolutely devastated by the horrific violence at Bondi beach tonight. This is an appalling and unforgivable act of violence.

My thoughts are especially with the Jewish community. My heart goes out to all who have lost loved ones and those who were injured, and my immense gratitude to the first responders who have risked their lives to keep our communities safe.
