my top 10 anime for the year - 4 Tojima wants to be a Kamen Rider I ❤️ this seinen show. It's this nostalgia taken too far meets sentai love meets failure to overcome childhood trauma to awkwardness as pure comic relief. It stays true to itself and females are real people breaking the genre.

my top 10 anime for the year - 5 Dandadan (Season 2) Season 2 is all about Okarun's growth (Momo sees this and gets a bit feral 😋) as well as expanding the roster. The Jiji arc has some great fights and you sense the evolution of everyone (even Aira). Female characterization is amazing here too.

my top 10 anime for the year - 6 Witch Watch This magical slice of life / harem is a secret comedy. The jokes (including classic Japanese puns) are smart teasing at youtube culture, foreigners speaking Japanese terribly, even 4th wall jokes. The main plot interweaves drama into all this nicely.

my top ten anime for the year - 7 Solo Leveling (Season 2) The hugely popular Korean manwha turn anime is a feast for dark fantasy and fighting lovers. This season involves more characters and the fight choreo is insane. It's not perfect (*cough* female characterization) but still kicks ass.

my top ten anime for the year - 8 Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo suru (My Dress-Up Daring) Cosplay in Japan (anywhere in the world) is serious business, passion in a way that takes hours per week and putting yourself out there. Marin and Gojou are adorable. Hints at neuro divergence are polished too.

my top 10 anime of the year - 9 Medalist: This sports anime grew on me; ice skating is hard and subjective. I don't know how kids do it (like gymnastics). But the choreography is intense and the Coach Tsukasa / Inori dynamic is quite heart- warming. Plus Tsukasa is hot when he skates 🤤

my top 10 anime for the year - 10 Jujutsu Kaisen: Kaigyoku / Gyokusetsu: JK is a top shonen property and this movie being a precursor to the main story arc helps understand the Gojou/Getou back story. This was a great Mappa studio effort I thought. Great fights, beautiful scene work.
