Scotland and Northern Ireland already use proportional systems for local elections that better reflect how people vote. England’s voters deserve the same meaningful representation.

Unless we change the voting system, we will see this at the next general election as well. With votes split across five or more parties, power can be won on as little as 25% of the vote. This needs to be a wake-up call.

⚠️ Last year, only 16% of councillors were elected with majority support. One councillor won with just 18.9% of the vote. This trend is not going anywhere - and tomorrow will prove it. First Past the Post has had its day. It's time for change.

Nobody needs to bring their poll card to vote today, but voters in England do still need to bring a form of photo ID. Here are a few of the other things you can and can't do today if there are elections in your area.

Britain's First Past the Post voting system concentrates power in the hands of the few, leaving millions unrepresented. In a healthy democracy, decisions are made through dialogue, not dominance. This isn't just a fairer way of doing politics. It leads to better policies, too.
