it sucks but that is the reality. its just something to come to grips with…. im still gonna push myself with my work but man! man!!!!

and now with tariffs, rising costs, lower spending, higher competition, it's just not what it used to be 5-6 years ago. Hobbyists (and professionals!) keep getting priced out of tables. I honestly don't think it ever will be :(

Majority of the artists I've met in artist alley do not do this fulltime, it's actually VERY slim that you'll actually be able to do so sustainably. It's not just the money, it's the constant grind, the travel, the stress. It eats away at you.

I've been out of the game for quite some time and I don't mean to discourage people, but I think this is a very over glorified and oversaturated profession and not enough people are being hit over the head with the realities of how hard it is to succeed without secondary income.

i wish so badly that i heard this advice before i first started taking commissions and everything when i was 15 like it hurt my confidence SO much jumping into that stuff. this is really really good advice.

Also, and this might be a hot take, but please, and I say this very kindly, I think you should improve your work before thinking about selling it. Selling products is a whole different landscape and completely warps your work and mindset towards art
