2 problems with attributing #substanceuse issues to trauma: 1) A lot of my patients say they have no trauma. Do we really want to keep claiming folks don't know their own experience? 2) It's still pathologizing--it just moves the pathology from the use itself to its (supposed) cause.

What gets called "resistance" in #substanceuse treatment is often in fact non-consent. If someone enters treatment on a mandate--legal, employer, medication-related, etc--they did not consent freely, and it's no surprise if they act like it.

Only now that immigration has been politicized in a partisan fashion are people realizing this, but our immigration system has always been ruthless, under all administrations. He had both a weed conviction and a DUI since living in the US. So many people have been deported for less.
