Another MacLib team rec from Margo (but our entire team loved this one)! MARION is a twist on Hitchcock's Psycho with a feminist edge, sisterhood bonds, and female rage. I had never seen Psycho before reading MARION, so it was the perfect chance to also watch the movie!

I think the Tingle fans know what they're getting into with FABULOUS BODIES -- campy horror, wild ideas pinging around the plot, and some gore as a part time body snatcher and influencer is kidnapped by her latest corpse and taken on a bloody drive around the city!

Post WWII 1950s seems to be a popular new historical time period for mysteries. THE OXFORD GUIDE TO SCANDAL & LIES by Kate Westbury is set at Oxford (natch!) in 1951 and introduces a coupld of students hired on by MI5 to uncover communist spies - and murder occurs.

COYOTELAND by Vanessa Hua was a revelatory, multi-layered, character-driven novel set in wealthy California exurb. In a starred review, Kirkus calls this โdark suburbia.โ Whatever you call it, itโs a wonderful read/listen.

Apparently I was very into funny fantasy this past month... The narrator's voice in KILL ALL WIZARDS by Berry cracked me up, as some overly mannered high society person explains the story of a Conan-type barbarian's vengeful quest against the city's wizards.

Katherine Center's latest, THE SHIPPERS, out 5/19, takes place on a cruise, making it a perfect vacation read. Center's great with messy characters that just need to be matched with the right person at the right time to, well, get it right.

Blending ancient myth and local legend, THE GIRL WITH A THOUSAND FACES brings Gothic horror to a magical 1970s Hong Kong. With restless spirits, watery dungeons, and gang-organized exorcisms, Sunyi crafts a haunting dark fantasy. Itโs a ghost story unlike any youโve read!
