The people who told us we had to support genocide because the alternative is fascism are already the perfect little fascists.

Democrats could be making moves to “Trump-proof” their alleged policy agenda while they still have the White House and Senate, as many of their supporters are begging them to do. Instead, they’re trying to end the world before Trump takes office.

Even if major legislation was passed reducing fossil fuel emissions, you know after 6 months conservatives would say, “See? It’s not working! We might as well keep burning them.” The entire systems of government, economy and media have to be such that moneyed interests can’t purchase public opinion.

Lack of genuine community is going to kill us if we can’t build it where it’s lacking. The contradiction of millions of lonely people is unsustainable and our resilience as individuals is nothing close to what’s needed to face what’s coming, whether fascism or climate change.

If the logical conclusion of what you’re arguing is “we’re fucked” or “there’s nothing we can do,” I’d be highly skeptical of your argument and you should be, too. There’s lots of evidence that we’re in for a rough ride, but I’ve seen no proof that collective efforts can’t have a significant impact.

I’m starting @losingourmindspod.bsky.social in part to look at this further and try to find sources of resiliency and avenues for action. It’s for my own sake as much as anyone else’s. I don’t see many people talking about this at all, let alone in an in-depth way, so I’m going to try.

I try to remember that whenever we talk about how much of a fucked up horror show the world is, what we mean is that the world is full of good people being wronged and beauty being destroyed, that we risk losing all of it—not a denial of the good in the world but its affirmation.

I think a scattershot “see what’s around you and be careful of X, Y and Z” approach is the best I can do right now, both in terms of general political organizing and specifically climate action. But I’d love to develop relationships between the project and some good orgs I know aren’t cults/scams.

As part of @losingourmindspod.bsky.social, I’ll often discuss the importance of collective action—both for its political necessity and its effects on our mental health. Given this, it would be great if I could direct people to specific organizations doing work around climate action. Any suggestions?

It’s not a virtue to put on a false face to spare people the inner turmoil of living on a dying world. You’re only making its death certain. We’re all bearing the psychological toll—probably in even more aggravated ways if we’re lying to ourselves that everything is mostly fine. We know better!
