The best way to find people to connect with is to subscribe to feeds (bsky.app/feeds) for stuff you're interested in and just talk to people. Follow farming is only giving bad actors cover.

NO ALGORITHM? Say waaaah? Yes, gloriously there's no major algorithm feeding you stuff, instead there are Feeds. You can add in loads of alternative feeds. Basically you're curating your own algorithm. Look at the #Feeds section and you’ll see default feeds.

You know, this is depressing Also confusing to me, all the etiquette, dos do nots, I get it. But the superiority and nastiness in these posts about how things are done, it’s like back off. No one is doing these things on purpose (us real peep) I get it, but is there not like a faq?!

Those hashtags were an immediate red flag to me - I just blocked the accounts which seemed to be the originators. Esp on BlueSky - you don't NEED TO FOLLOW people. You have FEEDS. There are feeds for almost any subject under the sun. Following is prob too noisy to read it all. Focus on Feeds!

So all of the lessons that people have learned on other sites for things they have to do in order to have a chance of their actual followers seeing their posts or whatever: none of it applies here. if someone follows you, your posts will show on their Following feed, period. No manipulation.

Everyone here literally picks their own discovery algorithms by choosing what feeds to subscribe to! There's one that Bluesky runs, called Discover, but I think I've loaded it once? Maybe twice. I spend all my time in my other feeds!

Bluesky doesn't have "the algorithm" to chase, is the thing! It doesn't work like that here; there is no "the algorithm" determining what content you see! The Following tab is pure reverse chronological, and everything else is a feed -- and there are tens of thousands of them.

Yet another plea to people who are using or following people off follow-farming hashtags like #NoDemUnder1K, #NoDemUnder5K, #BlueCrew, #FBR, etc etc: please do not do that, it's how disinformation operations work. I'm already seeing accounts in those hashtags that are likely disinformation ops. 1/
