There is a line of thinking in the U.S. political and judicial world today that I really can't understand. Some experts suggest that courts shouldn't rule against the executive branch because if Trump doesn't accept the ruling, a dangerous constitutional crisis would follow.

This week we lost Estevão Martins, a giant in Brazilian theory/philosophy of history. His loss is deeply felt by our historiographical community and me personally. He was the best academic supervisor you could have and great friend. May he rest in peace.

I feel that with the results of the US election we have crossed some sort of historical tipping point. The world as a whole is definitively further away from the democratic and liberal constellation that has underpinned public life as many know and value it.
