Yesterday evening, one of the most unusual cloud formations in the atmosphere appeared above the Great Plains. Known as mammatus clouds, these pouch-shaped formations often develop after powerful thunderstorms and can transform the sky into something almost surreal.

Old Gas Station in the Sacramento area of Citrus Heights/Orangevale. I don’t know its history, but I’m guessing it was built in the late 50’s or 60’s.

Like his friend Paul Nash who he met at the Slade, Claughton Pellew believed trees held a spiritual quality. This work from 1924 likely features his wife Emma (also an artist) walking near their home at Southrepps, North Norfolk.

Attending art school at eleven, by his twenties Diego Rivera was counted among the most influential figures of the Parisian art scene of the early 20thC including Picasso, Modigliani and Braque. This work was painted in 1904 when he was 18 and at the San Carlos Academy, Mexico.

Robert Macfarlane loves the em dash because, “It is liquid punctuation that flows both ways, unlike the period that bangs down a full hard stop to a sentence….”

“…The em dash is liquid and fluid, meaning it can move against the current, eddy back up the sentence, or flow down it. An em dash is your most beautiful, fluid piece of traffic control for meaning.”

This morning as I walk along the ridge of Woodleigh, I am struck by the glory of the day. Even though we routinely get it wrong, life continues to provide us with new opportunities to learn. The essence of life is not derived from our wealth or achievements, but by what possesses us.

Jamaican musician, Bob Marley, once said, “Some people are so poor, all they have is money.” We should pity those who find themselves destitute of spiritual and relational wealth.

Nyan Reynolds writes, “Poverty is not only the absence of money. It is the absence of access, access to safety, opportunity, love, connection, peace, and purpose. Yet there is another kind of poverty that never appears in an economic report, spiritual poverty.”

Instead of focusing our energies on building temporal wealth and political influence, we are called to focus on building God's kingdom through acts of love, justice, and compassion, which fosters a sense of peace and meaningful purpose.

This is essence of everything humanity needs to hear and follow: “All the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!” (Galatians 5:14-15 NKJV). (Sunrise, Northern, CA)

Marshall Hospital, in Placerville, CA. It’s a small rural hospital in the Sierra-Nevada foothills, near Sacramento, that we like to go to. They have high reviews and a down home feel.
