There is something freeing in seeing Jayce dismantle the Mercury Hammer to create his leg brace. A rebirth: he took the ruins of the man he was to create something that was finally truly himself.

I love the imagery of Jayce dragging his inert hammer across the ruins of Piltover: his ties of family, duty, country; his dreams twisted into a weapon made heavy. And then, on his downfall, the weight of it literally broke him. Arcane can never be accused of subtlety, but it is effective.

My favourite bit of characterisation of Jayce is actually: “I don’t want to swing a big hammer for the rest of my life,” or something to that effect. That youthful rejection of the inherited status quo vs. his eventual creation of the Mercury Hammer is such a delicious irony.
