An incredible career and unbelievable humility. Players like him and Chara don't have flashy stats, but their mark is indelible.

During the week-long celebration of my parent's 50th anniversary, we did an overnight backpacking trip into Death Canyon in the Tetons. It was stunning, challenging, and my sister and dad made fun of my "heavy" gear, most of which I acquired while I was in high school.

Just a reminder to check for your name in this list of books that OpenAI trained from. If your name is there, they probably owe you several thousand dollars. OpenAI cried that if everyone eligible author files, the company will go bankrupt, so I'm alerting every author I have ever spoken to.

My first boss told me during my assessment that goals are not projects. I was confused, but came to understand goals should be the development I need to make the projects successful. He wasn't the best at bedside manner, but he lived what he spoke. It's something I've tried to model since.

Mergers in EdTech can do weird things. Sometimes to do a major effort to select something only to have another company buy the tool you pick (See Angel). And occasionally, you pick one vendor who merges with the other finalist and you end up with the best of both products. (See

So the DOJ won't defend the HSI program because a lawsuit that seems to conflate quotas with student census info. Sure, they're both numeric, but they're quite different.

One thing I missed while camping off grid in July was Governor Kotek's executive order banning cell phones in k-12. As someone who works in educational technology, I support this. I can't imagine learning in the environment my kids have had to navigate.

I brought one of our new online learning polo shirts to a conference, but ended up not wearing it. Can you see the sleeve length difference in the navy blue shirt? Turns out it’s a women’s shirt.

Once again we see that AI is not "revolutionary" - it's a technology to accelerate doing existing things, and almost exclusively the things it's accelerating are crimes, scams, and negligence. Defrauding the government out of public moneys isn't new but AI is making it easier than ever before.

I've become a bit of an "Outcomes" detractor. It seems the sheer amount of oversight and noise could be much better used. It also relies on institutions teaching in a highly structured approach to learning that doesn't support flexibility in teaching.

3 facts that should drive the news: 1) DOGE has committed, rather than found, fraud. 2) A bunch of antisemites are using a claim to police antisemitism to take over universities. 3) In spite of claims they're cracking down on China, Trump's FP & financial policies have vastly helped China.
