A couple years back, GOPC was inspired to write a blog post regarding the cause & effect of road designs that led to a surge in motor vehicles crashing into buildings around the greater Columbus area. Some two and a half years later, this remains a big problem in Ohio’s capital city.

Lawmakers on Monday met to consider overriding three budget vetoes Governor Mike DeWine issued on June 30 regarding property taxes. Members of the Ohio House voted 61-28 to ban school districts & local governments from using replacement or emergency levies. Other property tax changes were tabled.

Last week, Cuyahoga County released the findings of its comprehensive Countywide Housing Study. The study, which will guide housing policies & priorities, highlights emerging issues including housing affordability, aging infrastructure, & the need for robust rehabilitation programs.

Last month, the Ohio Department of Transportation announced grant recipients for the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP). TAP provides funding for projects defined as transportation alternatives, including on- and off-road pedestrian and bicycle facilities...

We were also excited to see that Governor DeWine vetoed a provision in HB96 that would have bared the use of eminent domain in the rare instances it is used for recreational trail projects. This is a big win for active transportation projects. We are grateful to the Governor for this action.

Last night, Governor DeWine approved the budget, while exercising his line-item veto authority on several items. We are excited to share that the final budget, which took effect earlier today, includes a number of provisions which will bolster community revitalization across Ohio! Read more here
