So it was an honour to host the launch of Duncan Mercredi’s 7th poetry collection this afternoon at McNally’s. Poetry forever! @mcnallyrobinson.com @atbaypress.bsky.social

So I spent the morning at Winnipeg Comic Con with @gmbchomichuk.bsky.social, chatting with people and looking at things. And, of course, I bought poetry at a comic con. Next: Duncan Mercredi’s launch (@atbaypress.bsky.social) at McNally’s at 2 pm, which I’m hosting at @mcnallyrobinson.com.

So yesterday I facilitated my first WPL WiR workshop, a nature-focused workshop in the trees surrounding the Windsor Park Library. We wound up ranging from the Windsor Park precinct over to the Bonivital Pool next door, which was closed for renovation. And it was a gorgeous day…

So the news is out: I will be the Writer in Residence at the Winnipeg Public Library, from October 1 to April 30th. Being WiR has always been a dream of mine, so I am honoured to have been selected for this role!

So my book of essays, Fungal, is the next Free Press Book Club selection. The club is free and meets virtually May 27 at 7 pm CT. It will be hosted by @winnipegfreepress.com Arts & Life Editor @dedaumier.bsky.social & and @mcnallyrobinson.com’s John Toews, both of whom I admire very much.

So I was on CBC Manitoba first thing this morning, talking about poetry and Writes of Spring. And I have to say: Nadia Kidwai is always so great to talk to: she’s got such a melodious voice and a curiosity about her guests. Poetry forever!

Today is World Poetry Day. I knew I wanted to be a writer when I was 13 and my dad was given a computer to use at home by his employers. He almost never used it but I started writing a fantasy novel where I was the (thinly veiled) protagonist. I worked on that novel until I was 20.
