As we reflect on 9/11 and its impact on our city, time has not diminished our commitment to give back to the heroes and their families who gave so much. We want these families to know that @cuny.edu stands ready to welcome them with open arms and support them as they work toward their goals.

At John Jay College, the magnitude of 9/11 played out in the days and weeks that followed as the list of victims grew to include 67 students and alumni. The names of those lost are etched in a memorial on campus whose centerpiece is a twisted steel beam from one of the World Trade Center towers.

No college experienced the impact of 9/11 more immediately than the Borough of Manhattan Community College, whose Tribeca campus became engulfed in the day’s destruction. Windows were blown out when the planes hit. Debris and dust filled campus buildings after the towers fell.

The transformation of the historic Bronx Central Post Office into a state-of-the art science facility for Hostos Community College is the realization of a decade-long ambition shared by the Bronx and Hostos communities.

I’m confident that City Tech, the School of Law and Guttman are in capable hands during this period of transition. Milton Santiago, Natalie Gomez-Velez, and Elizabeth de León Bhargava each provide steady, thoughtful guidance. We thank them for stepping into these important roles.

To address the shortage of EMS responders in New York City, emergency medicine programs at @cuny.edu, like the one I visited at BMCC, are helping to bridge the gap while providing a path to fulfilling careers, enabling 87% of students to find employment within six months of graduation.

Each fall, the first day of classes brings a renewed sense of purpose to @cuny.edu. This year is especially exciting as we launch several new initiatives meant to enrich student experience both in and out of the classroom. There has never been a better time to be a member of the CUNY community.

Celebrated Mother's Day at @queenscollegecuny.bsky.social with participants of SIBS Club, a program for families of children with autism. Over the past 12 years, 500+ children and their families have benefited from the program and its mission to help children with autism develop social skills.
