Project update & cool little milestone captured: After all the field and lab work, I am finally holding the first photo of "visible results" in my hands. These are the first gels of a PCR to detect parasitoids. 🪰

I used my time in Vienna to visit the Natural History Museum with a friend. 3 hours only got us through the mineral collection and a few fossils. Very aesthetically pleasing ones: #naturhistorischesmuseum #wien

Heated Trap Project update: Finished the field work up in Cairns, collected at least some data (better than no data, right?). Now: field work & lab work in Townsville: trapping Drosophila larvae, letting them pupate, sampling them in the lab. (Last photo: water dragon we saw today!)

Field Work #update Phase 1 of my Australian field work is officially completed. I am leaving Kuranda today. The past 2.5 months were filled with hardships, but also wonderful moments. I collected data and saw beautiful species. This is what field work is about! Thank you Kuranda!

Thesis topic pt. 2: I am using a new method to aply an artificial heatwave to the Drosophila-parasitoid system (a food web!) in situ. The fly larvae are developing inside banana bait where also the parasitoids attack - or not. The fly pupae can then be sampled. 1/2
