'Unforgettable Uganda' It has been a wonderful butterfly tour, with many beautiful species seen. However, there's a bird here that even butterfly watchers can't ignore or be impressed by - the prehistoric-looking Shoebill. And our group got fantastic close views of them today. What a finale!

Military #Orchid (Orchis militaris) & hybrids between it and Lady Orchid (Orchis purpurea) known as Orchis x hybrida. Just 1 of the endless treasures found during our ongoing Sibillini & Abruzzo tour in the Apennines of Italy right now!

This absolute stunner is an undescribed species of Hypsocompe, known from just a few specimens. There is only one other record from Colorado (Baca Co.), thus, this is the northernmost record for the species (see alt text). Found under the sheet this morning by @nunesnaturalist.bsky.social !

Brilliant to meet with enthusiastic ecologists from @nationaltrust.org.uk the new owners of Giant Hill, the only sizeable Duke of Burgundy site in Dorset. We discussed plans for sensitive grazing and habitat restoration in this key site. One fresh Duke seen in cloudy weather, plus Marsh Fritillary

10 days ago I found some Pieris eggs on evergreen candytuft, Iberis sempervirens, in the #UGent botanical garden. They emerged last weekend and the black head capsule in young larvae is diagnostic for southern small white, Pieris mannii. #butterflies
