I think this question is in relation to my response to the Dana Terrace tweet I replied to the other day, and nowhere in that did I say DON'T go indie. I just said that going indie isn't for everyone. I don't think I've ever said "don't go indie", I just said that going indie isn't for everyone.

That, of course, requires you to know how to... make a pilot. Either as a writer, director & producer, or as the DIY all-hats-wearing guy like me. That's just a matter of gathering knowledge or building a skillset, something anyone can do with the proper time and dedication.

You'll need more than just an idea to pitch to a studio - any studio, indie or not. And getting a pitch, even a "perfect" one, greenlit is very difficult. It's almost easier to make a pilot yourself and hope it blows up online.

A lot of indie cartoons are being produced for free by the creator themselves (I don't get paid to make Swift Spark, I just put money in), or for free by volunteer teams. The more well-known ones have budgets, but even then the majority have their creators doing A LOT of work for (almost) free.

Animation is an incredibly time-consuming and expensive process that requires a lot of resources. I'm not against going indie at all. After all, I'm an indie creator myself. But people need to realize it's not something you can "just do" with a finger snap. It takes years to build an indie "career".

You underestimate this. Just because Jellybox exists (or any studio, for that matter), doesn't mean they can help every indie creative out with their projects. You can't just *decide* to pitch to a studio. Unless they specifically mention they're open to unsolicited pitches, it's invite-only.

Well, going indie usually means you don't pitch to a studio at all. Unless you mean an indie studio like Glitch? Because most small studios only produce, and don't distribute their own shows, meaning they sell the distribution rights of the cartoons they make to streaming services.
