In the 1940s and 50s, the government tried to eradicate a disfavored ideology and targeted any organization and individual supporting it with investigations in kangaroo courts. Now, it is doing the same with trans people, and WPATH is its latest target. My latest piece on the modern red scare.

From hospital subpoenas to funding threats to suing the organization that advocates for trans healthcare—the parallels to the Red Scare are clear.

Imagine telling an 11-year-old girl she can’t compete b/c she has a condition called DSD. Or making accepting discrimination the price all women must pay to compete. When people say transphobia hurts all women, this is what is meant. And the IOC did it willingly.

This is the trust trap, and we have seen it play out again and again in institutions like media, higher ed and govt. The right feeds distrust, use that distrust as a justification to take control, and then undermine the core competencies that everyone else actually values, further eroding trust.

Don't drink raw milk. Just don't. My parents bought raw milk most days until I was 10 or so, from a local NE Iowa farmer they knew, and we lived. They hated the idea of "packaged" milk at the time. The risk is not worth it.

I think about culpability, about the people that make the world this way. Their willful ignorance maybe. Praying that "y'all discover Jesus" isn't quite the same as actually doing the things that make life livable for the people we love.
