I find "America isn't really set up for it" to be an annoying rebuttal to any sort of proposal to reduce car dependency. Our leaders used policy to create a system of car dependency and we can sure as hell use policy to undo that. There are absolutely barriers, but do nothing is not a solution.

The share of counties where 95% or more of kindergartners were vaccinated against measles has dropped from 50% before the pandemic to 28%, according to our analysis of public records from 44 states and the District of Columbia. At least 19,000 schools are now more vulnerable to outbreaks.

Because Bari Weiss is not an advocate. Because the billionaire corporate owners who installed her to curry favor with Trump are not elites. Its the people who actually spend their lives learning about a topic that you should distrust.

Happy 2026! 🎆 My resolution: put
@dslc.io
on a sustainable footing. I’m soft-launching our Patreon to cover costs (Zoom, hosting, etc). If you love
#TidyTuesday
, our Slack help, or our book clubs, you can be an early supporter before the official launch Monday!

All of this thread. I understand the self interest that AI salesmen have to push their product, but the grasping way they’re doing it — the internet version of a traveling salesmen putting his foot in the door so you can’t close it — is only going to drive more people away.

It’s not like the true motivation here was ever a great mystery. A constitutive element of MAGA fascism is cruelty for its own sake; Republicans are coming after trans people because they are a small and largely powerless minority.

Every word of this about the Republican war on trans people "This narrative is and always has been a lie. What these people actually have is a seething, obsessive hatred of trans people. They want them either back in the closet or dead."

this full statement was remarkable and it's worth taking less than five minutes to listen and absorb what Rep. McBride says here. She notes her biggest regret in life was her inability to experience a childhood free of pain.

Have you ordered your Christmas eels yet? Don't delay! Medieval kings often served eels at their Xmas feasts. In 1213, King John had 10,000 eels at his holiday party. His son, Henry, once ordered up 40,000! So get on it! You don't want your party to be the First Nö-eel, do you? 🗃️🧪

spot on Jamelle and Adam 🚴♂️trekking across rural counties Iowa or Tennessee, purveyors of woo butter their bread saying that the locals are authentic and good and noble. And that the outsider is incapable. Low IQ. The answer is not that we join in the woo. It's pathetic and dangerous.

If your origins are Southern Italian, Irish, Polish etc. some version of this claim - the immigrant is a criminal underclass incompatible with the true Americans - has been around forever. They hate that the idea of America is more important than any group.

Not everyone is out. But that doesn’t mean they’re not here.
Allyship for LGBTQ+ people doesn't always have to be the most visible. In many rural areas, hidden allyship has a significant role in supporting those around us.

An important thing about cities is that people are often engaging while walking, biking, or taking public transit, as opposed to the car-centric suburbs. Cars isolate us and make us angry and unhappy.
