Honestly? The funniest, possibly best explanation. I was worried the parent companies OK'd this. Knowing they didn't – and that Amazon acted without their approval – is comforting, and also makes me think Amazon got chewed the fuck out. Honestly, I hope they start losing licenses over this.

Well @damanmills.bsky.social (and others), I guess you guys have a reason to stop working for Amazon. Because the platform had just AI dubbed an anime film that WAS ALREADY DUBBED BY SENTAI FILMWORKS! Boycott Amazon Prime Video right now. This is a crime against humanity.

We all agree that these "dubs" suck. But once again, that's not the core problem here. The quality will inevitably improve, though I personally doubt to the quality of a dub made by actual humans who care. The problem is that these exist AT ALL. They're an offense to art, and always will be.

The only immediate and TANGIBLE way of pushing back against this is to *cancel subscriptions*. If they have 90 shows and push out 10 AI dubs, they can start marketing “we have over 100+ shows!” It’s not about quality, but the scope of offering. *Your* subscription money is used in part to fund it.

Here's a lesson. Support English Dubs that are done by actual voice actors, not that AI garbage.

I know that a lot of people wanted Banana Fish to be dubbed but NOT LIKE THIS. AI dubbing on anime should be banned. In fact, I think its time that those dubs from 4Kids, Nelvana, and DIC deserve an apology.

Garzey’s Wing is legitimately better than this, and that used to be the infamous example of a “bad” dub. But now even that dub can be said to have had HUMAN ACTORS trying their best to understand a new medium. And I already miss that.

On the heels of Crunchyroll taking away subtitle typesetting with a converter script, Amazon is doing AI dubs now. Maybe we are fucked.
