I’m watching Gareth Edwards’s MONSTERS, which I haven’t seen since its release, and I’m sobbing at its climax, at these two damaged people at the end of the world just trying to manage the world they’ve been thrust in to. And I wish we had a better one.

That Coogler’s horror epic immediately became the focus of genre dialogue is amazing enough. But 16 Oscar nominations? That’s impressive.

Trying to decide which to see today. I have a ticket for one. The other would eat up my entire afternoon.

I keep forgetting how much of The Last Starfighter is modeled after a Heinlein juvenile.

This was the biggest surprise of 2025. It’s as if Tim Burton and Jean-Pierre Jeunet collaborated on a remake of Besson’s Leon The Professional and added a hecty portion of The Babadook, only even more fun and insane than that. An absolute winner.
