When the power is out but you have a novella to write… On the plus side, I’ve crossed the ten thousand-word threshold of the novella, which means I’m a quarter of the way through.

More than 1,000 words written tonight, bring the novella’s total word count so far to just over 7,000 words. It’s been a while since I’ve had this good a writing day.

I’m again realizing how freeing it is to write longhand. I’m foregoing my tablet and phone to get words down and have gotten more than 500 out today already. I’m just over 150 words away from making word count.

Completed the first 1,000 words of a new novella.

The publisher has received the contract and given me the all-clear, so it’s announcement time. I have sold my collection RAISING THE DEAD AND OTHER NECROMANCIES to Nightmare Press.

Very sad to hear of Thomas Tessier’s passing. He was one of the genre’s true greats, carving out a body of work by turns insightful and terrifying. His voice was erudite, his vision clear and disturbing.

I’m watching Gareth Edwards’s MONSTERS, which I haven’t seen since its release, and I’m sobbing at its climax, at these two damaged people at the end of the world just trying to manage the world they’ve been thrust in to. And I wish we had a better one.
