Ok... So I learned a LOT this first try. I probably shouldn't have done a flat tile, but the wax recipe I was testing looks and feels REALLY good. The kiln didn't make it up to cone 6 on the schedule I was using...

Getting the correct heat work in a manual kiln can be tricky. This baby is packed so in the last few minutes I babysat so I could get it to hold at the top temperature for a bit. It's a bit toasty sitting there 😂 Modern kilns can just program this in. #roycroftartisan #nevadaartistsassociation

Just checking to make sure there's no cracked handles this morning. Looks like they're all drying nicely! Special thanks to Ogres- Holm pottery who taught me how to dry with the handles facing inward towards each other so they dry slower and evenly. Great trick! #roycroftartisan #inthestudiotoday

2 1/2 days later... The first coat of glazes are on! There's about 18 glazes here to keep track of. Some need three coats, a few need 4. Prepping all the glazes and applying the first coat always takes the longest. The rim is done last so I don't damage it while handling. #roycroftartisan #pottery
