More than the animatronic not looking enough like Walt Disney, what bothered me even more from the Walt Disney, A Magical Life show was the inaccuracies in the narrative.

One of the fun attractions at Disneyland that you will rarely wait more than five minutes to get into, even if the park is pretty crowded.

I’m kind of sad that they are now using the 3-D chess table on the Millennium Falcon at the end of the ride queue at Disneyland as a seating area before the next group goes to their cockpit. If a group wants to take a photo, it seems like someone is already sitting there.

It was a cloudy afternoon at Disneyland and around 5 pm, some drizzle and then sprinkles started.

First time dining at the Blue Bayou restaurant at Disneyland in 50+ years of visiting the park. It’s truly magical.

Got into line for Star Tours at about 12:20, one hour ahead of my Blue Bayou reservation. Might be cutting it a bit close. The ride CM told me I might not get off the ride in time.

Just got into the park at Disneyland. Plan is to have my lunch at the Blue Bayou (never eaten there before) and anything else is a bonus.

I have a reservation tomorrow (Saturday, 4/25) at Disneyland for the third day of my 3 day ticket. Also got up early 59 days ago to make a reservation at the Blue Bayou. The Enterprise Incidents podcast analysis treated the Romulan commander’s offer to Spock that his Vulcan and human sides would both benefit from living in Romulan society as something profound, in that Spock does not fit in on the Enterprise and in his Federation life. #TOSSatNight

I don’t know much about the USS Pueblo incident during the Vietnam War when a US military vessel was captured, but I remember reading in the Star Trek Compendium criticism that this Star Trek episode re-wrote that historical incident as if the US was the victor in what had happened. #TOSSatNight

When they talked about this episode on the Enterprise Incidents podcast with Leonard Nimoy’s son Adam as guest, one of the criticisms they had was how the tv audience knows too much of Starfleet’s plot to steal the cloaking device compared to what the show seemingly reveals. #TOSSatNight

Can I do my own?

It’s been a week since this visit, but the last thing we did on our Midwest trip in the Detroit area was visit the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village next door in Dearborn, home of the Ford auto company. Both are highly recommended.

Visited the 3rd of the three MLB stadiums on our Midwest baseball tour last night at Detroit’s Comerica. It must be the most themed ballpark I’ve ever seen, with tiger statues and motifs everywhere. They also have a merry-go-round with just tigers as animals to ride and a small Ferris wheel.

On Friday we made our way to Detroit after driving partway to Toledo the night before. Visited the Motown Museum gift shop (the museum proper is being renovated with a huge expansion) and Third Man Records store and factory in downtown Detroit during the day.

For any fans of the 1970s-1980s tv show M*A*S*H*, there is a Hungarian diner named Packo’s in Toledo, Ohio referenced in a few episodes by the Klinger character. The diner is still there, has M*A*S*H* memorabilia on the walls, and hundreds of signed bread rolls on the walls of the restaurant.

Discovered that there is a Moe’s Tavern in downtown Cleveland which was frequented by an animator and a writer of The Simpsons back in the 1980s when they lived in an apartment above the bar and which was the likely inspiration for the bar on the show.

On Thursday we drove to Canton about an hour south of Cleveland to tour the Pro Football Hall of Fame, then had lunch in Cleveland’s Little Italy, and then went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in downtown Cleveland.

Walking around in downtown Cleveland after the baseball game, the highlight for me was entering the Cleveland Public Library, a magnificent space with both historic and modern elements.

Another beautiful stadium (and fun game) at Cleveland’s Progressive Field (originally opened as Jacob’s Field in the 1990s).

Between Pittsburgh and Cleveland we made a brief stop at Brandywine Falls in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, probably one of the lesser known U.S. National Parks to people who live in California. There’s a lot more to see and do in the national park, but we had only limited time.

Touring Pittsburgh proper including stops at the University of Pittsburgh’s iconic Cathedral of Learning, the remnants of historic Forbes Field nearby, the Duquesne Incline, and finally a night game at the gorgeous PNC Park, home of the MLB Pirates.

On another spring break baseball tour this year, this time to Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Detroit, with some local sightseeing along the way.

More progress on the Montezooma’s Revenge refurbishment at Knott’s Berry Farm. Temporary wood fencing at both ends of the station, the electromagnetic launch mechanism installed, and the gap in the track before the loop has been filled.
