Military ration time again! Almost forgot about that main from a German EPa, plus some chocolate. Well... Not great, not too terrible? Somewhat grainy texture, otherwise fine and slightly better / more complex than an ordinary can of soggy ravioli ;). Excellent beverage base and decent chocolate.

Oops, forgot to post this Kentucky Common I brewed up a whole ago! Never had one, did some research on recipes and came up with this one, containing 34 % flaked corn, a few percent of caramel and roast malts, and predominantly Cluster hops (plus a little Hallertau Mittelfrüh). #Homebrewing #Beer

Oof... busy times were had. Soooo... To catch up on two topics at the same time: I'd call this brew a huge success! ;) Somewhere between a Festbier and a Märzen - and it was especially delightful to get it served at the location. The guests also seemed to enjoy it.

Huge achievement unlocked yesterday: @ookami.cc and me made it all the way up to the Zugspitze, from Hammersbach via the Höllentalferner and the via ferrata. Weather forecast looked promising so we rented ice picks and crampons and set the alarm clock for 3 am. And succeeded this time!

Of course we'd like his tens of millions of pounds, but would we take that at the expense of everyone in the world knowing we were pieces of shit? Yes. Yes we would. Please give us tens of millions of pounds.

Ok, 4.2 kg of malt is too much for this kettle, at least if you want to have somewhat precise temperatures while mashing. What was I thinking? Anyway: Had my attempt at a Russian Imperial Stout for this year's Christmas season yesterday. Added a bit of coffee and smoked malt. 1.105 SG. Wish me luck!

I have to say, the test batch of my Waldfürst already makes for a really nice summer beer! Pleasant fruity hop notes without too much bitterness, and overall a bit lighter than what the color might suggest. #WeuBräu #Beer #Homebrewing

A while ago a friend kept insisting that beer would be perfectly fine without any hops and that, in fact, hops only make beer taste worse. Well... Why not try something then (and get rid of some old ingredients while doing so)? Mainly Pilsner and Vienna malt, few percent roasted and caramel malts.

And because the test batch turned out pretty nice, the large batch of this year's Waldfürst is now happily fermenting away in the basement. :) Turned out to have a slightly higher OG than the last one, but should still be nice hoppy and light beer for the summer - just with a bit more of a punch. ^^

Mountaineering continued yesterday with @ookami.cc ! Had to be reasonable and turn back after making it roughly halfway to the Zugspitze, as we were too slow and would've missed the last cable car down. Still an amazing trip though!

Okay, this will be an experiment! Trying something on a small scale for an upcoming Festbier: Fermenting at 8 °C - with the NovaLager yeast strain! Did really well at 18 °C for the Maibock, but in the fridge? Well, there's something going on... #WeuBräu

Been testing the new via ferrata sets yesterday with @ookami.cc, on a hike to the Ettaler Manndl - and what a good opportunity to also give the Maibock a first try at that occasion! #WeuBräu Yeah, thoroughly shaken but still cool. Shaking up the trub did affect the taste noticeably, though ;)

First hiking trip of the year, a few days ago! 11 km round trip including the Großer Traithen. Really beautiful, but a bit more snow than expected. ^^

Wolves are a keystone species. They're also complete goofballs who love to play with their family 😆

Not exactly surprising when thinking about it, but even though the bottled Maibock looked pretty clear already, storing it a while at 4 °C leads to more stuff coming out of solution and (sloooowly) precipitating. Looking forward to giving it a taste in about two weeks!

Oh, completely forgot to post about the first test batch of my "Waldfürst" that's in development! something in between a Pale Ale and an IPA, flavourful but not much bitterness and some light malt character at 6.2 % ABV. Still needs some maturation. #WeuBräu

And that's around 9.6 l of our Maibock bottled! :) Should have 7.2 %ABV, and with the added sugar for carbonation (yeah, still doing that for now... ._.) it probably ends up at around 7.5 %. "Starkbierzeit" has begun already, but it will be ready for May I hope! #WeuBräu #Beer #Homebrewing

That was a long day, but yesterday I had a go at trying to brew some Maibock, just in time with may around the corner. Also putting the poor kettle to its limit, with 3.62 kg of malt there (Vienna, Munich II and a pinch of Pilsner), aiming for ~ 12 liters. #WeuBräu #Homebrewing

I've been curious about this Lallemand #NovaLager yeast and might give it a try for a Maibock soon! Never worked with a Lager yeast before, but as using one would be more true to the style and this one should still give a Lager-y character at current basement temperatures... Why not? :) #WeuBräu

Turns out I still had some some Maris Otter malt around with no clear concept on what to do with it - and more than enough leftover Chinook hops. Sooo... time for another 'Single Malt And Single Hop' kind of beer it is! Didn't get much wort, but let's see how it goes. #WeuBräu #Homebrewing
