We finalliy watched the first episode of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. I had plot issues. Like, tricorders never caused any pain in the pas when curing things... but it was funny. It was darker than expected, better than expected. Best line (no spoilers without context) Huh... Teachable moment.

For the novella I'm writing, I was going to try and find the perfect public domain novel about a group of rebels fighting against an oppressive capitalistic system. None of those I found really worked... An old man stopped reading it at the critical point, afraid the system would win.

For years we've had to buy used copies of books to publish, clip off the spines, and scan them, OCR, proof for OCR scans, etc. All because authors didn't even keep a single file or hard copy of their novels. THEN we've had authors pull their books and come back and ask for the files... again.

See, Cannon should have been removed long ago, but people just moved on and forgot she was out there Trumping things up... This crap about barring the release of those files needs to go to the next level asap and be overturned.

Things Authors should do better. 1) Backup your files 2) Keep copies of your stories and novels (FFS) 3) Learn the basics of your word processor of choice 4) Not worry that a cover does not exactly show a scene from a book that the reader has not yet read instead of if they will pick it up.
