It's rare that I get to reflect back on my entire tech career and my philosophy towards work and life, but this interview captures it perfectly. One of the few recordings of myself I've watched end to end.

Too many people think the answer to one extreme is the opposite extreme. But humans are a full circle. In avoiding the human in one system, we always meet it again down the road. Which is why no system-wide changes will flip a switch & resolve our humanity. Only self-confrontation can do that. π§΅

Chatbots β LLMs β do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When theyβre βrightβ itβs because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. Thatβs all.

Loblaw, Empire and Metro control more than 60% of Canadaβs grocery market = record profits, price-fixing scandals, and loyalty programs that harvest data. Why not municipal βPublic Goodsβ stores without manipulative markups that invest back in their communities?

I actually think by todayβs meeting Trump finally destroyed any hopes in Europe to rely on American support. Effectively US pulled out of NATO, informally. Canβt count on them to help defend Democracy, Freedom, and Rules-based International Order.
