If as an abused child you care for and love a family member, like. Them hurting you doesn't mean you want them to be hurt. For example, wanting them to be brutalised by police or the prison system. You just want the abuse to stop.

Like sorry but some things that actually prevent child abuse are: - free contraception - free and easily accessible abortion & related reproductive healthcare - the ability as a parent to refuse or sever legal connection to an unwanted child WITHOUT judgement or punishment or coercion

The thing about criminal sentencing for child abuse is that like. You could every child abuser a life sentence and that sentencing expectation still requires the abuser to harm a child and be convicted before this is done. So it doesn't meaningfully prevent child abuse in the first instance
