I introduced a spam throttler in AppViewLite, so that it can ignore likes, posts, and follows done at non-human speeds. When it comes to follows, I however then realized that Starter packs exist. Is there a way of telling the difference?

atproto hot take: moving to a non-bsky pds is not decentralization on its own. you also have to decentralize the apps. if you have your own pds but connect to bluesky's servers to get your bsky.app experience, then they can still unperson you. the only difference is your did and repo is safe.

Now AppViewLite displays a badge when you receive incoming messages. It will redirect you to the bsky-app messaging page (since chat is not implemented), but at least you don't have to manually check.

Now you can spread the AppViewLite database files across multiple volumes (for example, by moving large historical slices to slow rotating drives while keeping everything else on fast solid storage)

You can't know the size of a CAR before downloading it, and processing its records requires random access. So AppViewLite will stream the CAR, keep the records and paths in memory, and after a certain threshold it will write the CBOR of new records to disk, keeping track of the offsets in memory.

I did something similar in AppViewLite. Blocks, quote removals, and threadgates simply blur posts, and you can see the detailed reason. The focal post is always visible (unless there's a block between you and the author)
