Israeli anti government protests that ignore the genocide in Gaza, that ignore the suffering of innocent civilians, are worse than no protests at all. They are signifiers of the very mentality, dare I say culture, that caused the genocide.

The pro Palestinian campus protests have been effectively silenced because the discourse of those protests made people feel uncomfortable. Meanwhile, itâs striking how comfortable and silent the same people seem to feel about the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Israel is starving children.

All of us have a moral responsibility to condemn and act against Israelâs genocidal actions. But some have more of a responsibility than others. If someone has spoken out about related issues - e.g., Oct 7, pro pal protests - silence about Gaza is read (by me at least) as complicity.

I really do not think many of the pro-Israel Jewish folks understand just how much Israel will never be seen the same again. From liberal Zionist to far right, many exist in a media bubble, and have a mistaken impression they are the mainstream. They are increasingly in an alternate universe.

One reason that some people donât oppose a genocide is simply because they cannot believe it. Itâs so far from their representation of who they are, of who their government is to be true. Thus allegations must be driven by hate or stupidity

Genocide in Gaza, ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, and remaking of Israel into a Kahanist republic: this is the hegemonic political project in Israel, and it will not disappear even if there's a cease fire or new elections. It won't stop unless it is named, confronted and defeated.
