Retired...and making up for 30 years of lost reading time.
This one was too real. Hard to believe it was written in 1922.

I liked the inventive structure of Makenna Goodman’s new book throughout, but I was really won over by the final pages.

My favorite way to experience a city? Running through its empty streets hours before dawn, catching breaths of chilled air blowing under the glass doors of the office buildings, knowing that before long, the streets and sidewalks will be packed.

Just finished my second book by Ben Myers. “The Gallows Pole” was terrific, as was “Cuddy.” Which of his books should I read next?

Looking for a good read for Women in Translation Month? Try Gabriela Cabezón Cámara’s “We Are Green and Trembling,” translated by Robin Myers. It’s a winner.

My first book by Matthias Énard. I loved how the two stories paced around one another without engaging patly. I’ve already got Zone on order.

Finished this week. Flower and Barley Patch were good, but resisted my affection. Companion Piece, like all of Ali Smith's books, was easy to love. McNally's plays managed to get me as fired up as they did back in the 1990s.
