About 50 members representing 4,500 USW cement workers from across the U.S. and Canada are at USW headquarters in Pittsburgh this week for two days of meetings to build solidarity, address bargaining concerns and discuss trends at their companies and in their industry.

Today, we continue our Black History Month celebration by honoring Rosina Corrothers Tucker. She organized the women behind the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters and pushed labor and civil rights forward—from the shop floor to Congress.

In 1937, the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters became the first Black-led union to win a collective bargaining agreement with a major U.S. corporation. Led by A. Philip Randolph, their win helped pave the way for collective bargaining rights workers rely on today.

Last week, we joined with our labor allies to urge the administration not to back down on trade measures that protect America’s shipbuilding industry. Workers have seen what happens when our shipyards are sidelined and our jobs are shipped overseas. We can’t afford to retreat again.
