My co-teacher is great to work with, but his default background music is a playlist of Steely Dan, and after two and a half years of listening to it, I have to say that Steely Dan kind of sucks

I’m not really a fan of Absolute Batman (“stupid fun, with an emphasis on the stupid” is how I characterize it), but I respect that they’re drawing Diana as bigger than Bruce. This was my take months ago when I first really got into Absolute Wonder Woman.

I read Spider-Gwen #5 this morning, and I find myself now contemplating the central theme of the issue, which is about struggling to let go of anger over things you can’t control and finding joy in things you can.

I want to draw, but I have no inspiration.

Again, it feels like editorial is being careless with the character, which feels weird given just how popular Magik has become in the last decade. #XSpoilers

Going into more esoteric stuff, when Magik came back in the late '00s, her story was entirely about her doing bad shit in order to get her whole soul back. And she succeeded! Belasco hasn't had a magical claim on her for about fifteen years of publication. #XSpoilers

Like, there's a feeling of editorial incoherence in this decision that I have trouble resolving. It feels like no one is guiding the writers on who the character historically is. (FTR I really like Ashley Allen's interpretation of Illyana) #XSpoilers

The most salient of these differences is the fact that the Darkchild is sort of a magical manifestation of Illyana's dissociative defenses against her childhood trauma. Like, that's explicitly what's going on in her solo series. In the Infinity story, Darkchild is a separate entity? #XSpoilers

It's a perfectly fine tragedy for a character who resembles Magik but in multiple baffling ways simply isn't her. #XSpoilers

I admit that I have pretty much completely fallen off of the Infinity comics for Marvel, but given the firestorm around the Magik story that just wrapped this week, I was curious to see what was going on. #XSpoilers

Amazing X-Men #3 is good. I feel like MacKay has a strong handle on what story he wants to tell with this event, and he’s working in plot and character beats that will matter once we move on from this bad future. Easily the best AoR book I’ve read this week. #XSpoilers

Relatedly, while I’m fine with Laura making poor choices, it is boneheaded of her to go back to Doug after she breaks the mind control once. The point that Laura is secretly a joiner could have been explored more effectively with more space, but it’s just an afterthought here. #XSpoilers

I have really enjoyed Laura Kinney: Wolverine, but LK:Sabretooth is weak in comparison. It struggles from hyper compressed pacing with major plot points being so ambiguous that they have to be clarified on the recap page of the next issue. #XSpoilers

I know a lot of things can change in ten years, so there’s probably a story for how she gets there, but that’s not what we have in front of us. This Madelyne is just jealous of Jean and wants to *be* her, which ignores all Madelyne’s growth during Krakoa #XSpoilers

Okay, so comics. Just read Binary #3, and it’s a solid Carol/Jean story all told. Madelyne is very poorly served as the villain here. Her whole deal is about getting out from under Jean’s shadow, and trying to steal the Phoenix Force just doesn’t mesh with that MO. #XSpoilers
