Chat out of Hell is cracking on with series 5! Continuing the theme of doing themes, this episode we take a look at two rockin' songs about heroes. And somehow made it through the whole thing without once talking about Cadbury's Heroes. Well done us.

Not the best hop harvest this year, got a bit more than pictured but only 200g in the end. Vacuum sealed and popped in the freezer. Will be enough to finish my spring golden ale next year. Variety: Goldings

Got a pile of sloes off a buddy so got a couple of litres of sloe gin started for Xmas! The sloes were frozen, so the sugar hasn't fully dissolved yet, will probably take a day or two with occasional shaking I'd think.

I've been asked - on a surprising number of occasions - two questions. "IS the Independent Salford Beer Festival going ahead in '25?" And - "When"? The answers? Yes. And - 6 - 8 November. There WILL be more news soon.....

Bottled 2 ales today: a 6% attempt at Jakehead and a 3.4% second running golden ale with last year's garden grown hops. Accidentally over primed the JH at 3.1 vols of CO2 though, so I'm probably in for a few surprises...

First beer cooked, missed my numbers by a distance but also had different grain to what I remembered buying... Wort tastes great so it'll be beer either way. Second runnings currently draining into boiler!

Birthday challenge, brew a strong hoppy ale (based around Jakehead) and also a second runnings golden ale. Water preheated at 6am, fly sparging first beer right now while heating batch sparge for the second.

can I ask a q about one of the recipes in your book please? Heretic Whale Juice - you say they feed for 6 days then oxygenate. On a homebrew level - could I siphon it aggressively off the trub on day 6? Would that be too much O2? You say to take off trub to dry hop anyway
