I created a 3D visualization that shows *every* attention weight matrix within GPT-2 as the model generates tokens!

After my post on smuggling arbitrary messages through unicode, some people asked me if AI could decode it. Gemini Flash is pretty fast at it! Have had good luck with Claude too. So far no dice with OpenAI models. This uses block.github.io/goose/ and forevervm.com

Made a larger version of the postcards I sent out for #ptpx this year. This one took 2 hours to print!

Had some questions about how these are made. Here's the quick version: Using a dataset from the city, I pick an area of Manhattan, draw a circle around it, project the building geometries into 2D, remove hidden edges, then generate an SVG for my pen plotter to draw! Each one takes 20-30min to draw!

I think we're ending up with something like this. A kind of hand-drawn, sketchy feel. Did a lot of segment merging and line sorting to make drawing faster, but will ultimately have to wait until after vacation to see if these can actually print in a reasonable amount of time.

Spent some time writing a hidden segment removal algorithm today. Mostly happy with the results.

Combining depth-based edge detection with a new normals-based approach in a custom shader. The faces of each building are much more visible now!

Trying out video uploads on here. This is a recent capture of some rendering tests I've been doing with some NYC building data. Here I'm adding outlines to the buildings in a post-processing step. #webgpu

Spent a few weeks working on a Rust+wgpu tool for generating per-vertex ambient occlusion values. But I'm taking a break tonight to try out some new rendering techniques. Starting here with some edge detection in the fragment shader. #webgpu

Over the last few months I've been working on an interactive viz that combines some of the features of my previous NYC projects. This one uses raw #WebGPU with a more detailed base map, covering more area, and hopefully with some live transit data.
