St Andrew's Sonning Berkshire. Henry Woodyer's spectacular 1875 reredos comprising saints is unusual for this area. Woodyer had previously engaged in a comprehensive reorganisation of the nave in 1852. The roof painting is by Bodley between 1903 - 1906.

At Eastbourne #OnThisDay 1892, Lewis Carroll recorded in his journal just four words: "Death of Alfred #Tennyson." It was a personal blow to him as well as a national event, as Ray Dyer explains: victorianweb.org/authors/carr... .

#OTD in 1892, Alfred Lord Tennyson died at age 83. He remains Britain's longest-serving Poet Laureate and is remembered for poems such as Charge of the Light Brigade, The Lady of Shalott, and In Memoriam A.H.H.
