Tunbridge Wells Borough Council revealed it wishes to demolish the Friendly Society Hall, leaving only the facade on Camden Road. The Royal Tunbridge Wells Civic Society have made an application for listing to Historic England.

It's worth searching out a charming detail at St Mary’s on Horse Fair, Banbury. It's the lovely rabbit that hops from the corner of one of the stained glass windows. A restoration of the Georgian church by A.W. Blomfield, who directed the design of the new stained glass by Heaton, Butler & Bayne.

William Sugden's Big Mill in Leek has burned. The Society is relieved to hear that no one was hurt, our thoughts are with evacuated families from nearby. This is such a significant building locally. It is Grade II listed, an important example of large-scale building for the silk industry,(1860).

Huge fences have now been put around Edgerton Cemetery chapel and 600 graves in Huddersfield to prevent people going near them. Kirklees Council has confirmed this is due to safety concerns regarding the condition of the twin chapels and steeple. 🧵

The much loved Kursaal in Southend-on-Sea, subject to legal agreements, has a new leaseholder. The local council are stating this new deal paves the way to outstanding repairs being undertaken and a new leisure-based use. We placed the building on our Top Ten Endangered Buildings list in 2024.

History in the making… 25th February marks 68 years since the founding of the Vic Soc. #onthisday in 1958, Lady Rosse, John Betjeman and Nikolaus Pevsner were amongst the founding members of the Society for the preservation and appreciation of Victorian & Edwardian heritage, architecture and arts.
