Pediatrician Here 👋🏻 Why do we push pack to much against anti-vaccine nonsense? Because vaccines protect our patients the Most. As pediatricians our patients come first. We attempt to address parental anxiety and hesitancy about vaccines. But Disinformed refusal is not informed consent.

What’s crazy about the lie that docs make money from vaccines is the fact that it costs patients more money without them. If a baby gets meningitis, docs make more for a lumbar puncture (since the US only rewards procedures) than we would for a vaccine.

Decided this week that talking to people about “food insecurity and the importance of addressing it isn’t working bc “food insecurity” sounds nicer than “starving children.” So to get people to listen, I’m going to start focusing more on “starving.” I don’t get why people won’t listen 😭😭

It’s hard to be on social media these days for a lot of reasons. But one reason really gets at me- nurses & other healthcare staff making fun of residents. It’s worse for female residents. It’s compounded for URIM residents. Bias is real & needs to be owned & fixed by all healthcare staff.

You’d think most people care about kids w/ cancer but you’d be wrong. Our medical reimbursement system sure doesn’t. Pediatric hematology oncology is the 4th lowest paying specialty overall & is 1 of 5 pediatric specialties where 3 extra years of training is rewarded with a lower salary.

Within hematology oncology, physicians caring for adults make 93% more than those caring for kids. 1/2 as much $ to see patients who often can’t tell us what’s wrong, deal with kids AND parents, all in the face of increasing workloads & decreasing trust. It’s no wonder interest is declining.

A woman who was 20 weeks pregnant fed her toddler son raw milk. He contracted Campylobacter and then passed the infection to her; she progressed to sepsis, and had a miscarriage. She is suing the business that sells the raw milk, saying she didn’t know the risk. Don’t feed your kids raw milk.

Cincinnati Children's is one of the 3 best #Pediatrics hospitals in the country. They get the sickest patients from probably hundreds of miles around, and chaplains are essential to the care of acutely or terminally ill children. This is whom ICE is grabbing.

Hi people putting off fireworks. 11p is too late. Some of us are working tomorrow. Potentially even going to be taking care of people like you who hurt themselves from fireworks. So please stop.

Just don’t shoot off your own fireworks. And def don’t let your kids do it. The image of a kid losing all his fingers due to a firework never gets out of your head & that kid lives with the consequences of their parents’ actions forever.

This is a big smack in the face for children and the docs, nurses, therapists, pharmacists, hospitals, etc that take care of them. Children need Medicaid. This takes it away from them. Not surprised but still infuriating.

Lastly, I’ll add that I am an advocate for cancer patients. About 50% of pediatric cancer patients are on Medicaid. The GOP is about to take away life-saving care from CHILDREN. Any person is healthy until they aren’t. We are all vulnerable to a serious illness that we cannot work through.

Few go into pediatrics because it’s hard & pays < other specialties International trainees fill spots but w immigration changes that’s going to get much harder. BUB (Big Ugly Bill) eliminates CHGME which pays for >50% of pediatric trainees. Not sure who is going to take care of our kids.

Childrens Hospitals don’t get Medicare funding for pediatric residents like adult hospitals do. This guts funding that is already minimal. It’s less than 2% of GME funding.

The $45 billion for detention includes family detention, a practice that ended in 2021 and restarted under this administration. This bill allows for indefinite family detention. The American Academy of Pediatrics STRONGLY opposes family detention due to overwhelming evidence of harm to child health

This is thimerosal. It is NOT mercury. You can see that clearly by the chemical structure. It has an ion that contains mercury as a component. That’s it. That’s like saying water is “hydrogen” or air is “nitrogen” — it’s wrong. It’s ALSO been extensively studied for safety. 1/
