Have had some evasive narrators (mostly in my novel)... the 👑 goes to Jaye. There are some things about her past she just will NOT tell the whole truth about. Details that get changed in the retelling. And Shaylock? She doesn't bother being unreliable. She straight up leaves things out 🤣 1/

It was probably Jaye who started it - flicking a cigarette into the wrong corner. She's running. Shaylock (her wife) .... is running after her. Zachary (Jaye's brother) is desperately trying to explain to his cop husband why his sis and her wife are running from a burning building. 1/?

When you take a very-much-side-character and turn them from man to woman and everything just clicks into place 😁 (Yes, I am doing Ink Stained Wolf read through and edits)

Jaye and Shaylock (Inked Stained Wolf) are *always* in my head. These ladies just. Never go away. Even when the story is done, they come back with more words, more snippets of their life together. These two will never leave. Just the mere mention of Shaylock's name and she comes running over. 1/2

My characters yammer on in my head most of the time. Though I have had instances of a set of characters only "speaking" in images and sound. Which was fun. XD Characters I know well (like Jaye) I can hold "conversations" with. Not quite two sided, but I can ask things and get answers. Sometimes.

AI does not write. To write is to enter another mind, to reach beyond ourselves, to fall into other worlds. Writing is transcendence, not pattern recognition. So long as we are human, we write.

Seeing people tag things 'human artist' and...shouldn't it be the other way round? Shouldn't the AI-users have to disclose they cheated to make something? Human-made is the default, the ones claiming theft and destruction as art are encroaching. Make them tag their garbage.

Waiting for the day when AI art is recognized for what it is (universally cringe), and all our weird fics become premium reading because people are so hungry for human authenticity after years of slop-fuelled feeds… (That day is now btw)

We don't want AI-generated stories. We want stories that are beautiful and weird. Mistakes and obsessions. Labyrinthine worlds; love poems that break us. We want the wild stroke of chance, the stray detail. We don't want soulless slop. We want work *written* by HUMANS.

So after some thought I have decided to query Nightfall + Reflections together. It just makes more sense to keep Jaye's story together. Wanted to do Nightfall+Guardian... for now, I will save Guardian for when the time is right. So. Ink Stained Wolf it is! (forgot this was in my drafts 🤣)

Finding a Newfoundland based agency to query to feels absolutely WILD. "Hi, hello, have my story partly set in Newfoundland! It has Newfoundland dialect in it!" (Sometimes the query trenches can have surprises :) )

Just heard we lost a holocaust survivor yesterday. Anyone lost to terrorism (and any and all gun violence for that matter) is one person too many. But that loss in particular weighs on my heart.

in many cases, a lot of het works are literally "we put a boy and a girl together in this narrative so therefore they must kiss" with none of the work going into proving to the reader that they should kiss it's a literal skill issue

My favourite side character in Guardian is Birch. Birch is a Spirit who went undercover to help the Fates judge Persephone's suitability to become Keeper. Birch is a joy to write. A trickster at heart, she never takes no for an answer and is always stealing things to give to Persephone. #GhostPit

Finally finished the draft of the new Reflections Saga, two months shy of the 11th anniversary of the original. Added nearly 7k words based on what others thought. I have learned so much writing this woman's story over the years. Jaye has come a long way. She's grown a lot. And I have too. 🌈📚♠️
