New Cornell-led study is the first ever to provide state-by-state projections of carbon emissions and water use by data centers. Estimates that data centers are on track to add 24-44M metric tons of CO2 pollution annually thru 2030, roughly equivalent to adding 5-10M cars per year to US roadways.

As Hurricane Melissa batters Jamaica, climate justice activist @mikaelaloach.bsky.social says "this has been caused by the climate crisis, by fossil fuel companies." She also suggests naming storms after oil company executives to highlight their role.

We can find suitable land with sunlight, water, and nutrients to grow plants, wait years to harvest the biomass and burn it for energy, hope to capture the CO₂ with carbon capture and storage technology, and find a suitable spot to bury the CO₂ permanently. OR we can use solar panels.

Referencing Krugman's The Rise of Renewable Energy, Richardson draws a connection between government support for renewable energy & government support for the Erie Canal. Madison vetoed funding for the Canal. NY State took the lead and funded it. Will NY State take the lead on renewables?
