It's good to see that someone understands that systemic gameplay alone does not make an immersive sim.

I would jump into 6, although there are some callbacks to 1-3 with unreal script/verse. Usability declined in 3 and later versions. I'd probably start with 4 or 5 (5 is a remake of 4) if you want lore, and only checkout 1 and 2 if you are into some level design sicko shit (it had best level editor)

I think there is a better form of society for the United States and building it does not require so much of a radical act of revolution as it does adopting policies that work well in other countries. The extractive policies of capitalists is what holds the US back from being better.

A true return to European medieval life is not very likely because of potatoes and other crops of the Columbian exchange. That and modern farmers have more in common with nobility than anyone else. A true return would require land reform.

This reminds me of a local pizza place I went to in college called Flying Saucer Pizza (rebranded to Zaucer Pizza to save on typesetting costs). They were retro-sci fi themed. My favorite pizza of theirs was called Crop Circles. Sometimes I still make a variation on that when I make a pizza at home

As much as I loathe this question, I do actually think that its sort of a rite of passage. Asking this question is sort of the symbolic first step of actually thinking about games as something more than an entertainment product that is "fun".

To be fair, if someone you don't really know said something you strongly disagree with 5 or more years ago; I think its at least worth checking to see if they still believe. I mean considering the last 5 years it wouldn't surprise me if someone changed their mind about something.

Game engines should optimize for iteration time instead of for graphical fidelity and performance. The more iterations you can do the better game you can make.

Even when I'm playing a shooter or immersive sim or something; I always enjoy the moments where they break convention to do a tone poem or some walking sim stuff. Everyone should break the rules a little, as a treat. Its OK to get weird with it.

This isn't why I judge game engines by how they implement their UI systems. But it does reinforce how important those systems can be.

Once again reminding all players of Deus Ex to do the tutorial mission before starting the game.
