A landmark Georgian church in Galston, Ayrshire, is #ScottishChurchOfTheWeek. It was called Galston Parish for most of its life but became Irvine Valley in 2024 which includes churches in Darvel and Newmilns. The 120 ft spire has an 1885 bell from the Gorbals Brass and Bell Foundry. 🧵1/2

As today is the shortest day, door number 21 of our Scottish Churches Advent Calendar opens onto a beautiful wintry night-time scene outside Newington Trinity Church - Priestfield in Edinburgh. Built in Italian Lombardic style by architects James Sutherland & James Walker the church opened in 1879.

Phew! Successful lunch for eleven. Lovely to have all the offspring and some of the grandchildren together. Out of the way of having large numbers nowadays.

Door number 18 of our 2025 Scottish Churches Advent Calendar opens onto a delightful scene at Greenbank Church in Clarkston, East Renfrewshire. Built in 1884, among other cultural treasures the historic church possesses a wall painting by the late celebrated Scottish artist Alasdair Gray.
