Interesting reason I heard for why a table switched from D&D: "We got into too many disagreements and confusing situations about whether something should be ruled using D&D 5E14 or D&D 5E24. We figured it was easier and less confusing to use a different system." I've got my own anecdote on this

It seems the vast majority of 5E24 players are on D&D Beyond, and won’t go for content they can’t use on the platform. Pen & paper guys seem to have a witched to other systems. Sounds like the market on D&D Beyond is fine, but the little guy doesn’t really have a chance. Paper D&D might be dead.

Adding to this: while it seems there's definitely a crowd that loves system neutral content, I believe there's more people looking for system-specific content. Once Rook & the Crook is out the door, I'll be working on D&D 5E24, ShadowDark, and B/X versions of all my quest zines.

Major update coming: following a significant rewrite that implemented some new, more horrific concepts, Rook & the Crook is playtesting within the next two weeks. Layout and final art should only take about two weeks, and I'm getting PDFs distributed in October. Print versions following shortly.
