Really loved this conversation with Matt Shaer on the Origin Stories podcast. We get deep into the weeds of my approach to writing How the Word Is Passed and narrative nonfiction more broadly. Talked more about my writing process here than I have anywhere else.

I spent October traveling to schools throughout the South talking to students about American history. What I found were young people who understand we can tell a story that includes both the positive and the negative. As one 8th grader in Memphis said, “Doesn’t seem that hard, just say both things.”

Going to undergrad in the middle of Colonial Williamsburg, then working at the local newspaper, from 2016-2021, meant living every day in a microcosm of the contemporary debate around American history, identity and politics. This article captures that push-and-pull like nothing else I've read.

These are the sort of routine wins Arsenal need for a long season. Comfortable result, shared minutes, a Zubimendi golazo, Noni cooking on the right. Our depth has opened up new levels.
