My partner got me the coolest 2nd Anniversary/ Christmas present ! Wanted Love Bites for years but being out of print it’s very hard to find. It was also heavily banned when it first came out. It’s talked about a fair bit in the Rebel Dykes documentary.

Some thoughts on the Levy Review: - it's mostly but not entirely okay - if you're in England, opt out of data collection - it avoids confronting the biggest problems - it ignores 15 years of health research - there are clear examples of better practice - move trans health to primary care already!

Day 22 of #ResearchAdvent - Gift For my PhD grad my partner got me this beautiful kaweco sport fountain pen with Dr K English engraved on it. Use it every day. It’s by far my favourite pen (which is saying a lot cause I LOVE pens)

Day 21 of #ResearchAdvent - Motivation When I was at school my pastoral care teacher said there was no point in me going to a Glasgow Uni open day. I got my undergrad & PhD there and now lecturer there full time. So yeah my motivation is spite 🤷‍♂️

Day 20 of #ResearchAdvent - Theory Love reading theory but struggle to write about it. I’m much more of a methods person. I get how to structure my thoughts around empircal work but with theory I have a tendency to tie myself in knots trying to restructure my arguments again and again.

Day 19 of #ResearchAdvent - Analysis Most of my work has focused on data production thus far. However I am wanting to start focusing more on how population estimates relating to sex,gender and sexuality are analysed and utalised.

How do we solve these mega waiting lists for the gender clinics??? Just dont do the gender clinics and just have GPs prescribe hormones and refer for surgeries Gender clinics exist to soothe scared cis people not to help trans people transition

Day 10 of #ResearchAdvent - Methodology My methodologies tend to feature queer feminist mixed methods approaches. I’m slightly more of a quants person though also extremely critical of many of the ways it’s applied. Put a big push on reflexivity & transparency to adress most of that.

Day 9 of #ResearchAdvent - Publication Sadly missed today’s launch event for the Access to Social Justice book. I had an outstanding experience working on this research & learnt a lot!Here is a photo of me feeling less ill excited to be holding a book with my name on the cover for the first time.

Day 8 of #ResearchAdvent - Challenge Right now the challenge I’m facing is trying to kick this flu. Was feeling better then was up all last night with a fever. Though generally the biggest challenge I face is the ever present transphobia & cis folks lack of awareness of it in academia.

Day 7 of #ResearchAdvent - Read Used to be really into setting reading goals. I still do it but less to compete with myself and more to check in on my work/life balance. If I don’t read at least 2 books a month I know I’m over doing it. Here are two I’m hoping to get to over the holidays.

Got this snazzy toolbox for my art supplies! This is barely even half of them, though it is most of the stuff I use. Will be having a big clear out over the holidays and donating a bunch. Checked out some sketchbook pages from the past couple of years in the process.

Day 6 of #ResearchAdvent - Joy Graduating from my PhD the same day as my first undergrad dissertation supervisee got their 1st class honours degree was pretty joyous! Got everything crossed at the moment that they can get some PhD funding. So excited to see more research from them!

Day 4 of #ResearchAdvent - Engagment Last week I taught a fun session on dissemination where I got to discuss ways to promote engagement with our work outside of academic writing. I shared with my undergrads that I see teaching methods as an important part of my research dissemination.

Day 3 of #ResearchAdvent - Appreciation I appreciate my admin colleagues without whom I would be wandering around having no clue where I’m meant to be or what I’m meant to be doing. They don’t get enough credit for keeping academics on track. Must be like herding pretentious cats.

Day 2 of #ResearchAdvent - Values and Ethics I’m ill so this will be brief. I take a human rights approach to my work & place particular emphasis on autonomy, privacy and feminist conceptualisations of consent. In my data representation work this informs my centering of overlooked groups.
