This is so well deserved! @notrightruth.bsky.social is not only an outstanding academic & formidable activist but also extremely generous. She was a very supportive PhD examiner. Since then having her as my colleague & friend has made my time as an early career trans academic much easier.

At 7 myself and @nrennie.bsky.social are running a workshop for visualising the UK’s LGBTQ+ population for the @rainbowr.org conference. The workshop will introduce participants to the LGBTQ+ data produced by the UK 2021/22 censuses and them participants create visualisations with it.

Coming up on the 2nd March, this panel, organised through the Glasgow Lab for Intersex, Non-binary and Trans Studies (GLINTS), with @kenglish.bsky.social, gives aspiring researchers a chance to talk with others and to get support with their projects.

Was great getting to talk about my chapter in Queer in a Wee Place. I discuss how Scotland’s census is arguably world leading in terms of LGBTQ+ data representation but that doesn’t translate to positive outcomes for our community. Thank you to @yvettetaylor.bsky.social for putting this together!

If anything this verdict just increases the absolut mess that is the Supreme Court judgment /EHRC guidance. Thank you to the GLP for continuing to fight this. What I’m most worried about currently is how the confusion may be weaponised to mistreat trans folk further.

Been given the big task of allocating supervisors for Sociology dissertation students. There was some stressful admin to start with but I’m actually really enjoying getting to see all the students research ideas. I’m lucky that most of the assessments I work on are student led research projects.

Alongside @nrennie.bsky.social I’m running a (#TidyTuesday inspired) workshop on "Visualising the UK’s LGBTQ+ population" on February 25th 7pm–9pm UTC as part of the rainbowR conference!

Everytime I have to do something admin based at work my appreciation for my admin colleagues grows. I am not cut out for it and don’t know how they can manage it for multiple courses at once 🤯

My partner got me the coolest 2nd Anniversary/ Christmas present ! Wanted Love Bites for years but being out of print it’s very hard to find. It was also heavily banned when it first came out. It’s talked about a fair bit in the Rebel Dykes documentary.

Had a hellish few weeks but at least my marking is done untill January so I can get some much needed rest 🙃

Some thoughts on the Levy Review: - it's mostly but not entirely okay - if you're in England, opt out of data collection - it avoids confronting the biggest problems - it ignores 15 years of health research - there are clear examples of better practice - move trans health to primary care already!

Day 22 of #ResearchAdvent - Gift For my PhD grad my partner got me this beautiful kaweco sport fountain pen with Dr K English engraved on it. Use it every day. It’s by far my favourite pen (which is saying a lot cause I LOVE pens)

Day 21 of #ResearchAdvent - Motivation When I was at school my pastoral care teacher said there was no point in me going to a Glasgow Uni open day. I got my undergrad & PhD there and now lecturer there full time. So yeah my motivation is spite 🤷‍♂️

Day 20 of #ResearchAdvent - Theory Love reading theory but struggle to write about it. I’m much more of a methods person. I get how to structure my thoughts around empircal work but with theory I have a tendency to tie myself in knots trying to restructure my arguments again and again.
