As encampments continue to be criminalized here in Boston and across the US, we hear the same tired lies recycled from 311 complaints to Reddit comment sections.

One of the cool things about Warm Up is that we believe everyone has their own unique talents and abilities to contribute. There are many ways for people to participate in mutual aid and solidarity, beyond what may be expected or assumed at first glance.

It’s officially May, and we’re feeling the spring weather! Our rain-soaked volunteers showed up on Sunday to hand out supplies (including ponchos!) and food to folks downtown.

Warm Up Boston loves education! We just finished reading We Do This Till We Free Us by Mariame Kaba and met four times to discuss the book, abolition, and how Kaba’s writings apply to the work we do.

This week at the encampment we handed out chili with cornbread, tents, blankets, socks, and more. On our mobile route, we gave out sandwiches, toiletries, gloves, hats, socks, hot drinks, and more. On both distros, we always hand out harm reduction supplies. (1/6)

While we prepare for our mass meeting and increase our time spent organizing, our twice-weekly distributions do not waver, even in freezing rain. We bring hot meals, water, harm reduction, wound care, snacks, and survival supplies to the encampment every week.

We are calling this mass meeting to bring the community together to address the immediate dangers facing our neighbors and arm ourselves with the knowledge to keep us safe from forced displacement. (1/9)

On the darkest, coldest days of the year we’ve continued to distribute hats, gloves, socks, hoodies, coats, blankets, hand warmers, hot meals and hot coffee+hot chocolate every week downtown and at the encampment. Anything we can do to warm up our neighbors.

As we wrapped up our services in 2024, some of our volunteers also documented the latest (and longest) sweep against the encampment 2 weeks ago. Ironically, this sweep happened right before Homeless Day of Mourning.

Today is Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day. Each year, it's observed on the solstice to mark the longest night of the year to reflect on the needless loss of life our society has deemed acceptable.
