5 years ago today, the UK went into "lockdown" I think. What an unbelievably strange time.

Why would a film like Airplane be classified by the BBFC as an A rating in cinemas in 1980s and then classified PG when released on home video in 1986? I get that A basically became PG, but why the 6 year wait between cinema and home video?

Final total... Only 91 films this year. 53 of them new releases. 16 rewatches including the entire Nightmare on Elm Street film franchise (except that remake). Seeing the original on the big screen was a real highlight.

Should be in every newsagents window.

This is the problem with Netflix. Or maybe it's the problem with me. Instead of watching a film I actually wanted to see, I just watched Under Paris which is a film that takes itself waaaaay too seriously.

Everytime I think about the fact my colleagues have to pick up the slack because I was given a research sabbatical this semester....

Almost 5 years since I started on this Unsuitable Films and Video Audiences project and I am finally writing some conclusions for the book. Lots of redrafting and tidying up of chapters to do but this is a huge moment. I've loved every minute of working with the memories of everyone who responded.

Had a little tour around Universal's offices in London this morning courtesy of a former student who now has a very fancy sounding job there: Commercial Strategy and Operations Manager. Amazing to see a student doing such a fascinating job and to get a glimpse inside the machine. Nice view too.

Location spotting while in Nottingham! Shaun's house (seems to have changed quite a bit), Mr Sandhu's shop (where some horrible shit goes down), and the subway where Shaun first meets Woody and Milky etc (now boarded up!). Also Wollaton Hall which was Wayne Manor in Dark Knight Rises!

Had a great time at the Nightmare on Elm Street @ 40 conference discussing people's memories of seeing the film when they were kids in the 80s. SO many great papers and finally got to see the film on the big screen! Thank you to Kieran and Greg for an amazing conference!

Since September I have rewatched Nightmare on Elm Streets 1-7. Tonight I just saw the first one on the big screen and it was revelatory. Like seeing a new film. The big screen really is the best and the first NOES really is infinitely better than the others.

Been a long time coming, but I'm finally making the move. Not a fan of Elon Musk. Not a fan at all.
