It has been a fruitful day for our OPTICS group meeting with collaborators across disciplines and from around the world, ambitiously aiming to elucidate the role of microplastics as risk factors of IBD, specifically regarding the yet unexplained segmental intestinal inflammation of Crohn’s disease.

Laparoscopic surgery is generally believed to have a lower risk of adverse pregnancy and birth outcomes than open surgery. The largest population-based study on sexual dysfunction among patients with IBD using the Danish SEXUS cohort has just been published in the Inflammatory Bowel Disease journal. Our results indicate need for incorporation of sexual health in IBD care. ➡️ doi.org/10.1093/ibd/...

Our new study in @jinternmed.bsky.social shows that statin use is associated with a 16% reduction in the risk of IBD development. Linéa Bonfils defended her PhD thesis During her research, she found 1) multi-organ involvement in IBD up to 10 years prior to diagnosis; 2) paternal IBD to be almost as great a risk factor for IBD as maternal IBD during pregnancy, and 3) date of diagnosis in the Danish health registers to be valid
