The goblin shark’s attack is now much closer to a real jaw dislocation. The two-pose attack animation works especially well here. The model only reveals its true monstrosity when it attacks, just like the game itself. 😬 #gamedev #thalassophobia #shark

Because all animals are rotated to face the camera, I have to exaggerate the attack blendshape that drives the forward motion during the bite. It’s very tricky to make the head movement feel visible enough without introducing strange deformations. #gamedev #animation #greatwhiteshark

I’m still refining the vertex animation for long-bodied animals, specifically the yaw and pitch damping. I’m really happy that I managed to achieve this result using only vertex offsets and two blendshapes baked into a single UV(WX) channel. #gamedev #indiedev

I’m implementing a new gameplay feature where you can swim very close to certain stinging creatures to escape predators. It’s bittersweet, because you have to be careful not to get too close or you’ll take contact damage. Here’s a test with a Rangaranga and a bunch of Wakakakao. #gamedev #indiedev

I switched from one to two blendshapes for the fish attack vertex animation. Much more organic now! I baked the YZ offset positions for each blendshape into a single UVWX channel. Yes, I’m skipping the X position. It looks good enough without it. ☝️😌 #gamedev #technicalart

I’ve been working all morning on a lightweight flocking behavior for the next update, using the new Wakakakao as a test subject. The way predators chase their prey needed improved logic. It was also a necessary step for implementing the upcoming passive and aggressive swarms. #gamedev

iOS jellies, please update your game to the latest version (1.2.6). I’ve finally tracked down the root cause of the issue where some iOS players couldn't recover their progress after reinstalling the game.

Getting a head start on future updates by retrofitting the new ability system (with the symbionts). It won’t be live in the Refresh & Harmonize update, but the core architecture is ready. 🙂👍
